There are
various fittings (and combinations of fittings) used for balustrading with the most
common shown below. There is an Australian Building Code and often specific council regulations
that apply to the use of stainless steel wire balustrading - please check with your council before
proceeding.
Components are listed per single strand using 3.2mm wire (the most common size used). Assemblies can be secured to wooden posts using 6mm screw eyes
or 5mm saddles or to metal posts using M6 eye bolts, M6 eye screws or 5mm saddles. ![]()

turnbuckle, 2 x 3mm thimbles and
2 x 3mm swages per strand. This style requires a hand swager for assembly (available for purchase
or hire). If using saddles eye/eye turnbuckles are used however if using screw eyes, eye bolts
or eye screws then hook/eye turnbuckles are required.

1 x M5 jaw/jaw bottlescrew, 2 x 3mm thimbles and
2 x 3mm wire rope grips per strand. This style does not require any special tools
for assembly (although wire rope cutters are recommended).
![]() STYLE 5 - Preassembled as this style requires a hydraulic
press for assembly and so is usually supplied completed to your specifications for DIY installation.
Uses 3.2mm 7x7 or 1x19 wire and 1 x M6 tensioner, 1 x M6 swage stud and 1 x 3.2mm pan swage terminal per strand.
8mm holes are required to be predrilled into all posts. Suitable for metal posts only however
not suitable for posts where more than one set of assemblies starts/terminates at the same post.
